A crib is one of the most important purchases you will make in your lifetime. Why? It’s the only place where you will leave your baby unattended for up to 8 hours at a time. You want that place to be a haven; safe, comfortable, and beautiful. That is why it is our mission to create beautiful nursery furniture that doesn’t sacrifice safety for design.
All of our cribs and case goods are tested above and beyond the most rigorous standards. We meet/exceed all of the most current safety standards set by cpsc/astm. We add voluntary measures to exceed U.S. requirements with regard to phythalates and heavy metals.
Our production methods and the materials we use are continually being reviewed and retested in accordance with the ever changing standards for construction and coatings.
We believe in open communication and transparency with regards to our materials and finishes. We strive to educate new parents about specific details of finishing, test results, and the chemical contents of our coatings, metal parts, and even our packaging. Our pigments and top coats have been developed exclusively for Milk Street by the incredible team of artists and color specialists at AkzoNobel.
Each finish we use is Greenguard Gold Certified. Products that are certified by Greenguard have to meet stringent standard and emission limits for indoor use. You can rest assured that any product with the Greenguard Gold certification will not emit significant chemical compounds into the air. These products are the perfect choice for a nursery!
Does Greenguard test for phthalates?
It does not measure phthalates except in the Children and Schools certification; phthalates are semi volatile, and don't begin to evaporate until approximately 7 days after exposure to the air. It does not evaluate the manufacture of a product, nor any byproducts created during production or disposal.
Milk Street Baby independently tests all layers for the phthalates and heavy metals…we go above and beyond what Greenguard does….honestly. All our production processes meet the EPA guidelines for emissions.
CRIB SAFETY INFORMATION: THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION’S PUBLISHED CRIB SAFETY TIPS FOR INFANTS UNDER 12 MONTHS OF AGE. FOR MORE INFORMATION ON CRIB SAFETY, VISIT WWW.CPSC.GOV.
BABIES FROM BIRTH TO AGE 12 MONTHS should be placed on their back when sleeping to avoid the potential risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and suffocation. The crib mattress should be firm and should fit tightly so your baby cannot get trapped between the mattress and the crib. Use only a fitted bottom sheet that is specifically made for a standard size mattress and for crib use. Besides the fitted sheet and a waterproof mattress pad, nothing else should be placed in the crib with baby. This includes bumpers (we do not recommend using bumpers) pillows, stuffed animals or blankets. For proper air circulation around your baby’s face, do not place decorative pillows, quilts, comforters, sheepskins or stuffed animals in the crib while your baby is sleeping. Mattress height: At birth, the mattress can be set at its highest position for ease of putting your baby in the crib. Once your baby is able to sit up, the mattress should be lowered from the highest position. Once your baby is able to pull up to a standing position, the mattress should be adjusted to the lowest level to minimize the risk of falling out of the crib. Do not place your baby’s crib next to a window or near window shades or curtain cords, near framed pictures or other heavy objects. Mobiles should be placed well out of arm’s reach of your baby. Once your baby is able to sit up, the mobile should be removed.
All Milk Street Baby cribs are expertly built using high quality materials to last a lifetime. Our cribs have been designed, finished and tested to the highest safety standards, and comply with U.S. and Canadian Cribs regulations. Each piece undergoes rigorous testing by independent laboratories for compliance with current ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) crib safety standards. Milk Street meets or exceeds these standards with regard to construction, finishing, and packaging.
